School Rules & Regulations
General Information
1. ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

Attendance in school is compulsory. Attendance will be taken by the first period of the day.

Students are required to be with their classes no later than 7.30 a.m.
-
Students who are not with their classes when flag-raising ceremony commences will be considered late.
-
Students who are Singapore Citizens must sing the National Anthem and take the pledge. Students will take the pledge with the right fist placed over the heart.
-
Absence from school must be accompanied by a medical certificate from a doctor and/or where appropriate, a letter from the parents/ guardians.
2. APPEARANCE AND UNIFORM
The school uniform is to be worn at all times whenever a student comes to school and at all school related activities including those held during the school vacation or outside the school premises. Students are to wear the prescribed school uniform and modification to the uniform is not allowed.
Uniform Prescription

Name tags are to be sewn on the left of their school uniform below the school badge, and above the school badge for PE t-shirt.

For boys, their shirts are to be tucked in at all times.

For girls, their pinafores are to be at most 3 fingers length from the knee cap. Their belts are to be worn within the belt hoops.
Shoes and Socks

Only white canvas shoes are allowed.

Only RVPS socks are to be worn at all times.
School Tie
-
School tie are to be worn on Monday, General Assembly day.
PE Attire
-
Students are allowed to report to school in their PE attire on days which they have PE lessons. PE t-shirts are to be tucked in at all times.

On CCA days (Friday), P3 to P6 students may wear their CCA t-shirt for the whole day.
Jewellery
-
No ornaments or jewellery are allowed.

For girls, only a pair of simple gold or silver ear studs is allowed.
-
For girls, only a set of ear hole piercing is allowed.
Hair and Nails
-
No fanciful hair cut is allowed.

For boys, hair must be cut short and neat with slope at the back and not touching the collar. The hair at both sides should not touch the ears. Long side-burns are not allowed. Hair must not be gelled or waxed.

All boys must be neat in appearance, clean shaven and no facial hair is allowed.

For girls, if they have hair touching the second line of the collar, it must be tied up neatly only with black or navy-blue elastic band. Loose hair or fringe must be neatly pinned up. Fanciful haircuts are not allowed. Hair must not be tinted, dyed or gelled.

Nails must be kept short, clean and without nail polish.
3. CLASSROOM CONDUCT

Every class will be assessed based on the RV Class T.E.A.M. Awards.
4. CONDUCT IN THE CANTEEN

Students should not run or play in the canteen.
-
Students are to queue up to purchase food. Food and drinks are to be consumed only in the canteen.
5. RECESS

The canteen serves only the students and staff of the school.
-
Students should queue up in an orderly manner.
-
Students are to return the receptacles and cutleries and clean the tables after use so that the next person can sit down at a clean place to eat.

Students are to keep the canteen clean.
6. SMART COMMUNICATION DEVICES
To provide a conducive and safe learning environment within the school, students are not to use personal digital devices (smartphones, smartwatches^, tablets, iPads, etc.) during school hours including recess, CCA and after-school programmes.
We encourage parents/guardians to relay urgent messages via the General Office staff. At the same time, we recognize the need for parents/guardians to contact their child/ward on urgent matters during dismissal or after school hours.
In cases where the need is genuine, we allow the students to bring their smart devices upon completing the smart communication device contract online. This contract can be assessed on the school website.
^For smartwatches, these refer to functions which are additional to those of standard watches (i.e. time function). POSE smartwatches are allowed.

Smart devices should not be seen, heard or used during school hours.

For urgent cases during school hours, students are allowed to make calls to their parents at the General Office.
-
Smart devices can only be used to contact parents/caregivers at the foyer, outside the General Office, after school hours.

Students must be responsible in the use and safe keeping of their smart devices. Smart devices, which are brought to school, are sole responsibility of the owners and the school bears no responsibility for their loss or damages.

Non-compliance on the use of any smart devices in the school will result in the following consequences:

Students who do not adhere to the above rules will have their smart devices confiscated after the second reminder. Parents/guardians will be required to personally collect the smart device from the student’s respective Form Teachers.

Students who have any smart devices in their possession during examinations and weighted assessments will be considered as having the intention to cheat. This will be regarded as a serious offence.

The privilege of bringing smart devices to school will be withdrawn for repeat offenders.
7. BULLYING
At our school, we have a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying. Bullying is defined as any repeated or persistent behaviour, whether in person or digitally, that is intended to cause hurt, distress, or humiliation and involves an imbalance of power. Such behaviour undermines students’ sense of safety, hinders their effective learning, and disrupts their healthy development. Any instances of bullying are addressed immediately, and appropriate consequences are enforced to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all students.
8. ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
At River Valley Primary School, environmental education is an important part of holistic education for our students. Our school aims to inspire and edify a proactive and environmentally conscious school community with programmes and green activities to promote learning and environmental conservation efforts.
Each individual in RVPS is an advocate and leader in:

Maximising the use of recyclable and reusable materials

Educating and participating in school-wide and community greening efforts, and protecting, preserving and caring for the biodiversity of the environment in school, in our country and the world.
9. GENERAL

We strongly encourage all students to maintain silence at any assembly areas for the well-being of their fellow RVians. As such, students are expected to have a book with them, and to read while waiting for their teachers at the assembly areas or in the classroom.

All students are expected to be well-behaved and polite at all times.

Students are to greet school staff when they meet them.
-
Students must treat school property with care. Vandalism is a serious offence that carries severe consequences.

All students are not allowed to have in their possession any weapon. They are also not allowed to bring any weapon-like item, such as scissors and pen-knife, which can be used or intended to be used to cause harm to others.

All other items prohibited under Singapore law and items that the school deemed to be potentially offensive, disruptive or harmful are prohibited.

Students are not allowed to bring items that are disruptive to teaching and learning. Card games, toys and electronic devices are strictly not allowed in school.

Students must not sell, buy, or trade any items among themselves.
-
Students should practice proper toilet habits such as flushing the toilet and washing their hands properly with soap and water after use.

Littering is an offence. There will be consequences for littering.
